Who's Everyone Using for House Insurance?

Ours is up soon and feel like we're being gouged by a local company here in Sechelt. Basically covers bike value for the cost of my rear wheel.

Detached house, 2400 square feet, basic family home, earthquake, and we're being quoted $1700 and that doesn't offer much in the way of coverage for theft etc.

Any suggestions?

Cheers.

TD Platinum Plus is the default answer, I believe it's $5k or $6k per bike replacement value? I'm with BCAA, default is $2,000 per bike and I pay an extra $75ish per year to bump that to $5k per bike which is the highest amount they will do without scheduling the bikes separately.

With TD there are options to increase the bike value using some luxury clause or scheduling them individually.

There’s a product TD sells through someone.. Mellonex or something like that.  We got in through my wife’s U of M alumni.

Crazy wicked for bikes and everything else. Learnt about it here many moons ago.

i have them, but their rates have been steadily going up so they're not the crazy bargain they used to be. still pretty good though for the coverage they offer.

Thanks for all the insight! I need to call and confirm but for the TD Insurance mentioned above we would already be saving $700 over local. That's insane/awesome. That includes earthquake coverage but not sure of the bike coverage as I need to call in. I'm a one bike kind of guy so if the coverage is decent I don't see how we wouldn't go with them assuming they don't lob any other curve balls at us.

My wife and I are both BCIT alumni so I'm not sure how that played into the quote. Either way, thanks for the info. I'll report back with the final quote and some of the coverage details.

Thanks for the advice on TD Insurance. Saved $700 over Westland Insurance in Sechelt. $6000 coverage on bikes which is enough for me as I'm not a bike baller. Everything else was at least as good as the other local insurers with most things having significantly better coverage.

Cheers!

I had a less than ideal experience with a house claim on Meloche Monnex.  It was an extensive water repair job and they were pretty bad.  My adjustor was impossible to get a hold of and more importantly they absolutely low balled me on what they estimated the repairs at.  This meant I had to go with their "preferred" contractor, which translates into the bottom of the barrel operating on a shoe string budget - the quality of the work matched.  After 4 months of pulling teeth and fighting to have things done I was just happy to be done with the whole thing.

Second had information is that following the flood year in Calgary TD-Meloche Monnex was one of the slowest companies to pay across the city.

I think they all do ^^ that, from what I have seen its a big back and forth circle jerk between the ins company/adjuster/ contracter,  you just gotta keep on them.

We had a big rain/snow event up here in november and today i see across the street  the neighbors completely flooded basement  is just getting some action so thats 2 months

Agreed that they are all bad, but it seems like Meloche Monnex may be at the bottom of a bad pile when it comes to home repairs.  They seem to be very easy to deal with of bike thefts though.
