Want to replace my ancient 32" 720p 60hz LCD. Pretty set on this, Any reason to avoid?

Have you checked out Visions or London Drugs? I've seen 65" 4K tv's for as low as $600 in flyer ads.

I've seen bigger TVs on for cheap but don't have the space.
LG is good.
Make sure the connections match what you need. Some newer TVs are eliminating older style inputs/outputs.
Go and view the TV at the store, and try and watch different type of content. 4K TV may have a very good 4K picture but a mediocre HD/SD picture.

Panasonic plasma has great picture quality.

Has all the connections I need. Think I'll just buy it and return it if it sucks.

Yup, been happy with it. I'm just thinking about getting a bigger tv and then ditching my projector and screen setup.
I waited for my mom to die and scored her Samsung ... good pricing eh

Still rocking a 2012 Panasonic 1080p plasma I paid under $1k for and the picture quality is still awesome, especially black levels and motion. It's not as thin as an LED and it gets hot/uses like 200W of power but I love it. Will replace with OLED 4K when it becomes affordable in a few years maybe.
A friend bought 65 inch LG C8, which is pretty much the top rated TV currently selling. Fantastic 4K video quality, but FHD isn't as good as the old plasma. Contrast and blacks are close, but color isn't as consistent. The LG panel is ridiculously thin. Like an eighth of an inch.
Down here in the lower 48...We bought a new TV last spring. I poured over all these review sites but found this one pretty decent.
One thing I would recommend, if you are not in a hurry, is to wait until April time frame. That is when next year TV's will be released and saved about 30% on my TV.

I know a little, but when I'm shopping for any new electronics I still rely heavily on relatively neutral review sites like cnet and tomsguide. If your bar is best picture quality, then OLED is the way to go - beats every other tech (yes, including plasma) and incredibly low energy consumption - but of course it cost$$$. But only LG and Sony offer OLED TVs at the moment (and Sony uses LG screens which they pair with their own electronics). Second best is the Samsung QLED line - which ekes the best performance possible out of LED tech. Basic LED is cheap now, but you will always have issues with contrast with LED TVs. Plasma is dead. It was great 10-15 years ago, but there are better, cheaper, lower power tech TVs available now.
Statements like "LG is good" or "Samsung is great" don't carry much water with me. These are huge companies with a wide range of products, so they make cheap shit TVs and they make top of the line flagship models, and everything in between.
FWIW, reports of screen burn-in on OLED TVs is grossly exaggerated. Definition of blacks and greys on dark scenes is outstanding!

Hmm $1,800 for OLED 4K @ 55in with real HDR isn't bad, good to see prices on OLED coming down. Not going to upgrade for a few years, we don't watch enough TV to justify it but at some point will grab a better display. Hopefully Netfilx and other content pipes will up the bitrate on 4K streaming in the coming years as well as I have no desire to deal with discs anymore.
