I want to cut them in half to use as planters.

Go to a Casino or a racetrack, spend your last penny and they give you one (with suspenders to hold it up if you are lucky) as you walk out the door. At least that's what I figured from watching late night old movies.

If your close to a winery go and ask, they usually get rid of the barrels after two-three years use as they loose the strong wood flavour quickly. they are usually sold off for a nominal fee at the winery about this time of the year, you might have to wait a monthor two untill you can receive them.

I'd try calling a vineyard close to your house. From what I know of wine making, the barrels have a useable lifespan, then are either sold to distillers or turfed.

I could imagine their barrels would be a bit more expensive.

Thanks for your input. That'll be all. Let the others use their imaginations.

You could call Spagnols in New West.
