Yes, it is hard to not let the thought of revenge consume you at times. Perhaps a "forget, not forgive" philosophy may work? Sometimes leading a happy, productive & rewarding life is the best revenge of all.

I guess it all depends on what happened and what type of justice or revenge you seek.
Hate is so expensive.
I've spent a lot of my time trying to make it go away, but I've come to the conclusion it's impossible.
It can be mitigated by various means, but it's all dependent on what the perp did.
Did they say your jeans looked like shit, or did the completely wipe out your entire lineage?
Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Shit like that fuel Stu's people to levels of titan's of industry. If you don't have the time for that.. well, there's lots of bad things that can happen.
If I'm reading this correctly you can't get a job because you signed a contract saying you can not work for another company in the same industry within a year of leaving?
My understanding this kind of agreement isn't legal and doesn't hold up in court. You may want to talk to a lawyer.

let's say he took away my income for a year and ruined my ability to work at a different company by the random foolish shit that comes out of his mouth with no care or concern about others. all fun and games for this guy. it's effects go well beyond the monetary.

Revenge for the sake of revenge is pointless, but if you can lift yourself up while crushing your enemy a the same time, that is just being sensible.
dutch has a fair point - non-compete clauses are virtually unenforceable.
Also, "success is the best revenge".
There are a couple of books that really helped me not going for revenge but curbing the power of my ego.
Ryan Holiday's "The Daily Stoic" is highly recommended as well as his "The Obstacle is the Way".
A lot of great names in the past went through similar or worse situations and used these drawbacks, failures, backstabbings and whatnot as fuel for growth.
