i just finished cowl by neil asher and it was pretty interesting; fairly typical in structure, but the ideas were great. good stuff for the time-travelling, sci-fi loving crowd. i got it uber-cheap on bookcloseouts.com.
i recently finished cryptonomicon and enjoyed it, but way too many tangents. stephenson definitely needs a more discerning editor.
