I bike to work almost every day. I have driven about 4 times in the past 5 months. Winter doesn't scare me and the commute is short so I will continue doing it all year.
I keep the thermostats at about 16 C, colder at night hahaha… encourages the lady to snuggle up close at night.
I am buying as much local as I conveniently can. Eating less meat, and still trying to eat less, and what meat I do eat am insisting on it being local.
Not throwing things out unless un-fixable.
Sure there is a lot more to go. I wish I wasn't renting and thus had the incentive to replace windows, etc.
I have been working this summer at the local municipality to help them become carbon neutral. There are definitely a number of issues with the concept, but the first goal of carbon neutrality is to reduce as much emissions as possible nonetheless.
Reducing the emissions of the City's operations is the easy part. I am really excited about opportunities to address the emissions of the community as whole.
BC is really leading North America in emissions reductions and it is great to see the buy-in at local and provincial levels, so it doesn't really bother me too much the state of federal priorities at this point. The next step is to get industry on board and making reductions because they are responsible for quite a lot. The good thing is with industry emissions is the carbon intensity is so much higher, so it would be much easier to reduce emissions from a handful of emitters than say 2.5 million commuters and however million houses in BC with an average heat loss of around 30% or 40%.
At the end of the day, reducing your emissions (or "carbon footprint") is really based around efficiency. Increasing efficiency will save you money, so it really is a no brainer to me.
can't get enough of that sodium benzoate…
