Opinion: Breeding dogs for the sake of appearance alone has had horrible results, with bulldogs that can't breed or give birth naturally and dozens of species that suffer from congenital hip dysplasia and other hereditary diseases. Unscrupulous breeders repeatedly breeding dogs that are biological cousins or second cousins together care only about unrealistic "breed standards" and not about the intelligence or robust health.
Look at the AKC breed standard and show winners of Siberian Huskies - they're so far removed from anything like a real sled dog that it's not even funny anymore.
