we don't take debit

Just wondering when it became the norm for bars not to take debit? The last two times I have gone out the bar only takes cash or credit. I have to go use the ATM which they are charging 3 bucks to use now.

I am going to phone ahead to any bar I go to to find out if they take debit, if you don't take debit I am no longer drinking at your bar. If the pizza guy and cabs can take debit I don't see why its not a reasonable expectation for a business in a building to accept it.

Time-wise it's probably a pain in the ass for them to wait around while you fuck up your PIN 2 or 3 times 'cause you're drunk and there's a ton of people waiting to be served.

Bars down here don't require a pin on debit transactions. Everything is done via signature.

I don't care if its a pain in the ass for them. its a pain in the ass for me to walk across the bar dodging around tables and chairs to pay an extra 3 dollars to give them money.

It would be less of a pain in the ass to just not have servers and make you go up to the bar to get your drinks or order food. Besides with the new chip system with credit cards you have to enter your pin number as well. not everyone is switched over to the chip system yet but at some point they will be.

Businesses only change when they have to. Chips etc. haven't been around that long.

Yeah but you guys only recently got debit cards. And they're all through credit card companies too.

I don't have a credit card and don't plan on ever getting one. the point is that I am not going to go somewhere that makes paying them less convenient. Plus the number of times I see those stupid ATMs out of order makes me even more leery. I would be far less irritated if the fee to use it was like 1.50 but 3 bucks is a huge punch in the dick.

Maybe I am just getting old.
