Vancouver Take-out food??

Our Covid protocols have been pretty tight for a year, and wife and me both WFH.  So we’re going a little stir crazy.  One thought was to start hitting up new take-out restaurants for lunches.  So what’s the best Vancouver (and adjacent suburb) restaurants to hit?  Preferably no big chains, looking to support local independents.  Not looking for fancy, what are your must-hits?

oh, just noticed you said "lunches". nevermind, then. (but come for dinner).

however... just next door is some kickass fried chicken (open for lunch):

Kinkao looks rad! thanks!

I went with lunches because I figured we could grab and go and find a park nearby. Dinners seem viable as light hours open up and once we’re jabbed up, patios and dine-in are game on.  As drive time increases, take-out deteriorates IMHO

And you know to order directly and skip Skipping the Dishes, right? this supports the restaurants more

I'm with you there. I just call the restaurant and get it myself. I've been going to Bhai sweets on fraser just south of 49th a bit too much recently if you're into indian food. And there are some decent parks just a few minutes away.

I used to hit King Kao heavily when I was in the hood.

Get the pork belly bites if they still have them on the menu.

They also had a good beer selection. And they do serious heat if you want it. I recall crushing at least 6 pints with my meal one summer night.

Cannibal Cafe for burgers.

Chipotlé burrito is quite tasty. And hefty too.

If my girlfriend and I are ever in the area at lunch, we’ll share a “combo G” from Shiro Japanese at Cambie and 15th. The combo is only available wed-sun though. Monday it’s closed and Tuesday they have a special menu and 20% off all day (it’s really good if you do want something fancier).

The combo G is a decent price ($17.50) for enough Japanese food to fill both of us.

Shiro has a 20% off all orders from 4-5pm so they’ve maintained their throughput and their fish is fresh. We had a bad experience with another Japanese restaurant that had always been good prior to covid.

You can check their Instagram for pictures of everything on their menu. They post every day which may be why were tempted to go so regularly.

I've been hitting up the New Novelty and Dhaliwal Sweets, but have settled on New Novelty which is straight across the road from Apna Bhaia. Have you tried those - if you have I'm assuming you think Apna Bhaia is better?
