Transportation 2040 Plan direction

This plan includes high-level policies and specific actions grouped into the transportation-related categories listed below. Each category includes a short vision statement to help summarize the overall intent.

Land use - Use land use to support shorter trips and sustainable transportation choices
Walking - Make walking safe, convenient, comfortable, and delightful. Ensure streets and sidewalks support a vibrant public life and encourage a walking culture, healthy lifestyles, and social connectedness
Cycling - Make cycling safe, convenient, comfortable, and fun for people of all ages and abilities
Transit - Support transit improvements to increase capacity and ensure service that is fast, frequent, reliable, fully accessible, and comfortable
Motor vehicles - Manage the road network efficiently to improve safety and support a gradual reduction in car dependence. Make it easier to drive less. Accelerate the shift to low-carbon vehicles
Goods, services, and emergency response - Support a thriving economy and VancouverÂ’s role as a major port and Asia-Pacific gateway while managing related environmental and neighbourhood impacts. Maintain effective emergency response times for police, fire, and ambulance
Education, encouragement, and enforcement - Encourage sustainable transportation choices and educate all road users to promote safe and respectful behaviour. Support legislation and enforcement practices that target dangerous conduct.

Interesting. Lots to digest, but will probably have some impact on just about everyone here, even if you don't reside within City of Van.

They should ban those from city limits along with the pit bulls with small penis syndrome that drive them.

Freedom of contract. We sell them guns that kill them; they sell us drugs that kill us.

What's wrong with pit bulls?

BTW, only dog I've ever been bit by was a Dachshund, I had to get rabies shots, maybe
they should be banned too?

City could limit parking to force people to not drive.

National canine research council? LOL!

Statistics compilation here. You'd think that pitbulls made up half the dog population.

I know the stats, but it's not the dog, it's that asshole small dick people like a big
aggressive looking dog, and those people treat them like shit resulting in a mean dog.
On the other hand I know a lot of people that have pits and are nice to their dogs and
those dogs are the nicest dogs ever. With people, kids and other dogs.

Problem with getting rid of one type of dog is that those same asshats will still be out
there and they'll just get a Rott or a Husky or other large breed. In the 70's it was all
about how bad the Doberman was, the city of LA wanted to ban them.

So again, I say crack down on bad owners not "bad" dogs. Because if the irrationalists
had their way we'd be left with only gerbils and no dogs at all.

As far as the plan is concerned, just like all urban plans for the future, it doesn't even
come close. Vancouver by 2040 will need to be close to 100% car free. Create park and rides
on the outskirts and make everyone take the train, bus or cab into town. As density increases
no amount of roads or bridges will work.

Must be nice. The City of Courtenay commissioned a study of our infrastructure to help guide future development and Our local mayor released a statement a week or two ago stating that he didn't want the study to "go on and on about bike lanes".
