Its coming Fall 2019 (or so they say). Agreed ridiculous. Apparently its ICBC holding things up now......big surprise there.

Skimmed it, anything new besides the same old tropes of driver certification/safety and edge cases of sexual assault?
Still failing to see how the atrocious behaviour of taxi drivers in the lower mainland is somehow safer than Uber... those fuckwits take ridiculous risks and break traffic laws constantly.

Agree. After watching that I was like 'yeah ok...sooo....can we still get Uber already?'
What, you think uber all be driven by a buncha' bespectecled techie nerds? ha.
Uber drivers, with a few exceptions, will come from same pool of manpower that now supplies the cab industry. And with fewer legal/instructional hurdles to do the work.
But with Uber, if you get bad ratings, no one will hire you.

Exactly. Consumers will have choice with uber. Cab drivers have to go through strict testing and yet their service is brutal and sometimes dangerous due to the clapped out shitty cars that run 24/7. At least an Uber driver will have to take care of their rides.
And this has already been proven out for years in other cities around the world. Have used Uber/Lyft many times across Canada, US, Europe with zero bad experiences. Vancouver is at best a 50/50 chance of a bad taxi experience.

Careful what you wish for.
We are speaking personal anecdotes here. Handful of incidents from billions of global trips is immaterial to consider further.

Yeah, ride sharing will be a panacea for everthing, eh?

While everyone debates whether Uber is better/worse than Vancouver cabs, every town in BC too small for a proper cab service is a drunk driving shitshow. Can't they just approve it where there is no other option?
