You sure? I'm a civil 3rd year, can't recognize the people in the photos… never seen them at UBC.

Haha, okay, I got that from the front page of the Ubyssey, so it may or may not be accurate. Which photos are you looking at?

I see, the Ubyssey does say civil…

The worst pranks are the electrical engineers. At RMC if you look down into a certain courtyard you can see where the engineers painted some paving stones so from the air it looks like a logic gate…ooh aah.
At the mess table the mechanical engineers would talk of machine shop, welding class, going on boat rides to learn about aluminum boats and engines, etc. Us elec'ers were like "I was trying to get 11000110011 but I kept getting 1011100111001, so frustrating."

WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.

good find!

Throughout the rest of the 1990s, O-Week continued to grow, but the relationship between O-Week organizers and administration remained rocky. In 1995, the opening ceremonies engineering prank, a large smoke bomb, exploded resulting in several injuries among Western faculty and administration

My Grandfather (Leonard Keith Mott) was a professional diver who lost his life
June.17, 1958 when the original bridge collapsed. He was the first diver on the scene,
suited up and was trying to cut a trapped iron worker free when he was swept away.
His body was never recovered. I think the lack of respect that these morons have for
the history behind that bridge is disgusting.

Over dramatic.

Nobody was hurt, thankfully. No harm done, lesson learned.

Now, that said, they should automatically fail out now for failing this task. They must have selected low bidder.

Remember the Rose Bowl? Now that was classic.

my favourite ever is hanging the VW bug suspended 30 feet in the air off a flagpole in the middle of campus.

With the flagpole going through the middle of the car.

Haha, I know the guy in the plaid. Classic.

No one was hurt, no one should be offended (I don't think it follows to say this is disrepectful of the bridge's history).

I guess it makes for a good news story though.

I find it quite a stretch to say that they have no respect for the bridge's history simply because they tried to hang a beetle shell off of it..

I personally think the students should be charged with mischief and fined a heavy fine. These are adults here not elementary students who don't know any better. It's all part of the risk of the stunt, if it goes off without a hitch, great, if not then pay the consequences just like an other adult human being would for this kind of stunt. Sure, noone was hurt but they could have been if a boat had been passing by at the time the car fell. I'm not discrediting the tradition but if it fails and you get caught then pay the ultimate FAIL. Being an engineering student shouldn't give you any more rights than anyone else.

All that boat traffic under the Iron Workers in the middle of the night.

Totally agree, especially since they did fail. Part of past successes included NOT getting caught.
