I just returned from some time in the United States, and while I'd hoped that things would improve under Barack Obama, I'm actually saddened at how scared and stupid many Americans are becoming, simply because an African-American is in charge.

Republicans calling end-of-life provisions for health care that they themselves put forward and voted for under Bush "death panels" and evoking words like Nazism and fascism.

It's ironic that all of a sudden - in town halls across 'Merica, people are "up in arms" about attacks on the Constitution, this not being America any more etc. It's suddenly all about "Normal" or "Real" Americans speaking out. Seems like only a few months ago, speaking out got you branded a "traitor" or "unpatriotic."

No - the only thing that has changed is that a black man is president.

Here's some stuff I've put together from the web. As a Canadian, who wants our neighbor to the south to be well. I can't figure this out -

You "Real Americans" didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount in 2000 and appointed a Bush president.

Or when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate energy policy.

"Normal" Americans didn't get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.

Or when the Patriot Act got passed, a huge assault on your constitution and civil liberties.

Or when you illegally invaded a country that posed no threat and spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said illegal war.

How about when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq.

You didn't get mad when you saw the Abu Grahib photos.

You didn't get mad when you found out you were torturing people.

You didn't get mad when your government was illegally wiretapping Americans.

You haven't gotten mad when you didn't catch Bin Laden.

You didn't get mad when you saw the way your veterans were treated, and the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.

You didn't get mad when you let a major US city drown.

You didn't get mad when Bush let your deficits hit the trillion dollar mark.

But wait. You're mad now. After all that - what would it take to get REAL AMERICANS mad?

Well, when your government finally decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all ok with you but helping other Americans… well fuck that. That about right? You know it is.

You right-wing, Glenn Beck-fearing, Fox-worshipping "Real Americans" have all lost your fucking minds. You are selfish, greedy, obnoxious, narcissistic, and yeah, stupid and ignorant. Your pathetic little misspelled protest signs are embarrassing. Maybe you ought to find the smart person in your midst and let them make up all the signs, cause man, you look like a bunch of idiots. Also you're ugly and your mother dresses you funny.

Or maybe this has something to do with the fast that the conservative right is a bit more vocal then the liberal left. So far Barak is a 3rd term of Bush.Makes him an easy target for the numb minded Republican base.

Granted the choice between McCain and Obama, Barak would of had my vote too but its time for all you left wingers to admit that the campain was the best in history, but the substance behind is missing. Its now proven.

Too much Hope and Change, not enough action.

The Americans that are acting scared and stupid are the same conservative psychos that have always acted that way. They've just been acting really fucked now that Bush has been replaced by an African-American. Some of the antics are enraging but most of it is so far out there that it's just funny to watch. I don't think the psychos are growing in number…I hope.

I feel like things are going to improve under Obama. He's pushing a really ambitious and smart agenda so hopefully come re-election time we'll see a lot of progress and the Fox News sheep will have to STFU and GTFO.

I could be wrong though. After all, I am a brown man living in San Francisco so what the fuck do I know about "Real America" or how "Real Americans" think.

Anchor Steam FTW.

Lucky Lager when I'm in BC.

I think perhaps you meant a very vocal minority in America are already stupid and are now being frightened by an even more vocal right wing media machine.

Majority of Americans I know are extremely hopeful and actually excited that they can start to feel proud of being American again.

As for the rest of the post, FRAT!
