A 300 HP forester??? mand that'd be original…not my style, but definately original…However you're wrong about it being cheep…the parts them selves are quite expensive, and I'm sorry, but you ain't doin it your self…the internals of the STI are WAY different…they have different pistons, con-rods, you name it, they changed it….not to mention that unless you have a super beefy manual(foresters don't) your auto is gonna blow up because the stall converter is ALL kinds of wrong for the power you're looking for. Take it from someone who works on his cars alot, you have to do alot to make a car fast, and even more to make it stay together…and as for "performance mods" on any car…mufflers are the last place to start…"an engine is an air pump" meaning, if you expell exaust gasses faster than you can take them in, you loose efenciacy, and efficiancy makes power…I've been through alot of testing with my jetta, and the final result is 210hp at the wheels w/ all accessories attatched…that's pretty good considering it's an 8v…I just love how everyone says…man, 300hp…BULLSHIT…most car engines from economy cars have no idea what 300hp would look like, and if they did, it's be on a engine dyno, not in the car…you loose alot of "power" when you put it in the chasis and hook up all the accessories…I raced rabbits that had 90hp, and SMOKED mustangs/comarros/ stupid POS cars (time wise, not head to head)around every track I raced on…if you want a dragster, go buy an Old Dodge muscle car, but Miattas will kill about anything in a road race if properly set up…small and lightweight is the way to go, you have an engine that doesn't have to work as hard, and a tranny that doesn't have to kill itself to get going…FIN

No where did I say it would be cheap…….I know the first thing to go out would be the tranny and gears, but Sti Type II gears from a japanese forester would handle it.
The motors in the two. the XT and Sti are very similar….both are the 2.5 and have the same internals. Cobb Tuning is one company who is doing the XT conversion, and I believe Vishnu is another one.
Lets not make this a pissing contest, or my dad can beat up your dad……remember one thing….speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?
Figure the following.
All of the transmissions mounted to EJ series engines will work on every other engine. So the EJ22 in my car has a transmission (4EAT) that will bolt up to an EJ22T (Turbo 2.2), or an EJ25, or an EJ20T, or even an EJ25T. The EJ25T tranny (STi 6-speed) will bolt right up to my EJ22 (N/A 2.2L).
There are ALWAYS people looking for good condition 5-speed manual transmissions. Your 2,000 mile Forester transmission will easily sell for around 18 or 1900. The diff's and tranny from the STi will sell for around 7k I believe (you can use JDM parts for even less).
The engine internals can be changed yourself. It's the same block, it's just a matter of ordering the STi parts that you don't have. A guy down the road from me did an engine swap in his garage with a rented lift. You pull the engine, unbolt it, bolt the new stuff in and drop it back down into the bay. Flash the ECU and you will be driving again with an STi powerplant (both engines have the same engine management systems).
It'll cost around 13k if you just buy all of the parts and don't sell anything. But you can sell stuff and have the swap done for around 9k (plus labor if you can't do it yourself). It's pretty expensive, and to top that off, you'll have to drop the 3k for the Vishnu kit.
There will most definately be a lot of aftermarket for the 2.5XT Forester. It's pretty potent (stock runnings of around 14.7 in the 1/4 on the manual tranny) and has the potential. Wait for Vishnu to release some of their Forester parts. They will be expecting good numbers.
The beauty of Subaru is the fact that everything is interchangeable (for the most part). I can run WRX brakes, an EJ22T, and an STI 6-speed/with diffs for pretty cheap and the only changes will be mounts for the tranny. Plus you can find JDM STi stuff for pretty cheap. OR get your stock 5-speed re-cut gears to handle the power. That's pretty cheap compared to finding and Buying JDM STi stuff
BTW. What 4 cylinder is only an 8v? I thought all of VW's 4 cylinders were 16v… The only 8V I can think of was way back on the Jetta 1's.
The Ej25T from the STi is a built EJ25 from a 2.5RS Impreza. It's an economy car engine. Back in 1991 to 1994 the Legacy Turbo had a Close Decked EJ22T. One of Subaru's best engines. Completely capable of safely handling around 370hp on stock internals. Forged heads and cast walls and it's been said (and done by someone) that 30 PSI can be run for short periods, pumping around 550bhp (that's putting around 430 or so at the wheels). Through a manual tranny and AWD you loose around 23 to 25 percent, depending on who makes it.

Same block, different heads I believe…

this thread got ridiculous real quick:lol: anytime you mention the word "car" on this board its always "MUSCLECARS KILL RICERS" or "TRUCKS OWN" or "I WANT A WRX!!!!!!1"
anyway, nice car, it will be reliable and good looking (without being over the top) at the same time.
Who needs a WRX when you can get a Supra TT, boost the turbos to 18psi and remove the TRAC fuse and you have a car that goes 180mph. From experience, it pulls, hard.

well, why dont I just get a nice Charger frame, get some kinda V10, throw her in there, ah what the heck, lets just make the whole front end a ferrari, then the back end can be that of a Ford F-950 Super Duty, that way I can haul anything I want, and it can go 340 miles per hour, sound good?

oh ya, and cant forget to boost the psi to 86, and lowered the air in the tires, so it can climb the mountains too, oh, and it has to have 20" rims as well, just because

Because that car is useless in the winter.
Yeh in Canada, but in most other countries roads aren't always icy in winter.
Works great in the winters over here.
