since the price of the hotel room changed to $25 the equation turns into $9 x 3 - $2 = $25. while $9 x 3 + $2 does equal $29, that equation doesn't fit the problem implicitly stated. the proper equation is ($10 x 3) - $3 - $2 = $25.

the solution is:
each men paid $9 x3 = $27 everything fine at this point.
The $27 is the total of how much the men paid.
The problem then says +$2 for the boy. Which is wrong. It should be +$3 for the money the men saved. Since the $2 for the boy is part of the amount paid by the men, so the $2 is part of the $27.
