ho lee fuk.

windsurfing isn't dead, and I hope these guys all make it. that's some serious storm swell.

Ireland, 150 km/hr winds and 8 meter waves:

Tasmania,

Overnight the storm reached its peak with gusts in excess of 90 knots. The swell was also set to top-out with nine-metre waves expected.

Dawn at 'Back of Lighthouse' (BOL) unveiled an angry Southern Ocean with surf on the outside breaking at over double-mast-high and wind over 45 knots (85 kph) – enough to have even six of the world's best windsurfers impressed.

check out the spray. I don't think anyone would be surfing this stuff, would they?.

the redbull site has some awesome video.

headed to sombrio sun-wed, should be fun. peak of the swell likely has a bit too much south in it to really thunder but it'll be solid for sure.

I was at Sombrio some day this week. I really have little desire to surf in a wettie with my closest 300 friends, which is what I assume will be there.

I'll save up for more than 3 weeks in Central America next winter

Avoid weekends.
Sombrio was awesome this week. Everything was working and there were a couple times when everything aligned - sunny glassy empty head-high waves, plus some bigger sets.
My best island session so far.

Sigh … I was thinking of going to Costa Rica for a short surfy trip. Lots of Americans. Bali … super cheap living … lots of Australians. Has anyone been to either?

The two times I have surfed were both in Bali. I would love to try it again but I couldn't imagine doing it in cold Canadian water.

Because it was my first two times surfing I was on the main, busier, touristy stretch of beach but the locals told me the island literally has hundreds of good spots to surf.

Lots of tanned people riding around on motorbikes with surfboard racks.

can a long board be used as a SUP?

Ha Ha! Made you look.

yes if you're good you could surf them, but the volume is a bit low, unless its a real hog. no good for flat-water cruising - an old windsurf board is better for that. a modern sup (short, fat, thick) is far easier and more fun for ocean playing.
