All I can say is: do these people think that tossing some salt on 4-6" of solid ice on their uncleared sidewalks is going to do much? Absolve them of shoveling/liability?
Ride, don't slide.

Ramen shops must be making a mint as I imagine the smartest Vancouverites are ordering Shio ramen and pouring the hot salty soup on their sidewalks to clear the ice.
https://twitter.com/PhantomShovel69, this dude gets it! what pisses me off is the shite media, they keep scare mongering about homeowners facing fines for not clearing sidewalks. ive cleared mine and my neighbors lots and the fucking snowplough keeps piling it back. snow shovelling is good cross training btw
When salt runs out, you use pepper silly people!

Must. Get. More.
Hahaha. It says non-polluted.
Why slag free swag?
ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.
All you have to do is put antifreeze in a pump bottle, so easy… Geeze
People always ask me what's the phenomenon
Yo what's up? Yo what's goin' on- Adam Yauch

City is passing up a lot of revenue here. Peeps have had what, almost two wks to get their shit together and there's still sidewalks on steep hills that are undulating sheets of ice.

My neighbour was out torching the ice on the sidewalk w/a butane torch yesterday………:|
Freedom of contract. We sell them guns that kill them; they sell us drugs that kill us.
so after watching the news last nite it seems that they are going to go around and take infrared images of some 15,000 homes so they can send a $6 image to the home owner on ways to reduce there heat loss and save money , how nice of them .
if they have the time and $$$ for this why not take images of the asshats who have not cleared their walkways in front of there homes and business and send the a images stating your taxes will increase by $2k a year if the walkways are not kept safe .
now onto the free salt and shit , not so sure it,s truly free pretty sure taxes are paying for the salt and such , the city just does not have the time to do the work themselves .
also what should be done , is dump it around the city in areas that truly need it and let the people of that neighborhood benefit from it , not the greedy fucks hoarding it like on the news .

I'm pretty sure that if some people had a hot water connection for their garden hose, they'd be hosing down the sidewalk to deal with the ice the same way they deal with fallen leaves instead of using a broom.

Not a typical winter in Vancouver for people who normally hose the snow off their sidewalk with a garden hose.

but it's not free!!! Doesn't matter if you wait in line for 6 hours in subzero temps and spend $5 in gas.
:canada:
A lot of them are probably gonna sell the salt afterwards.
Thread killer
Vancouver is so detached from the rest of Canada its not even funny. I've never seen something so strange.
Every winter its the same thing: too few people have prepared for winter, too few know how to drive in winter, let alone deal with the repercussions of what winter brings - snow and ice. Yes, even Vancouver gets snow. It does every year, yet every year, the city can't seem to cope with it.
