Salt is only effective up until about -5C which is what is causing Saltmageddon to happen now. We have been hovering at 0C to -5C for the past week so people are panicking to get rid of the ice without the usual Lower Mainland rain to thaw it out.
If more of them had shoveled their sidewalks when it snowed, this would be much less of an issue.

Looks more like that was in Richmond. Just sayin…

I drove through the neighbourhood around Boundary an 22/29th. The road has 6" deep ice ruts and it's literally off-roading in the jeep to navigate on really lumpy ice across the whole road. Quite fun, but I'd hate to try it in a 2wd Honda. Had to drive through a couple lawn chairs in the way on the parking lane to let another guy in an FJ pass by.

Exactly what I expected from city people. Might be the same crowd that think Black Friday is also a Canadian thing.

I think it was the "free" part of the salt that drew the hoards. Vancouverites seem to lose their minds with anything that is free.

people in Vancouver will wait 6 hrs in the freezing cold for anything free… people shoveling sand from Kits Beach now. This place is f[HTML_REMOVED]cked.

Funny I work near MetroTown and all the side streets are a nightmare. North van seems to be on top of it.

Was this madness because it was free? Bought a bunch of salt at iranian tire two days ago. Skids of the stuff.

I heard on the cbc last week that salt had sold out every where in Vangroovy

removing free sand from beach will cost you 2K

If I was in Vangroovy I could just wear my Caulk boots, some of the posties in PeeG do that in certain conditions
