Yeah, funnily enough I realized that the Outback is just long enough after posting this. The Forester is a little short.

Volvo XC wagon?

Edit, oops, I see your budget. 10-20k Does that even exist anymore in a used car?

Yes! Just barely broken in. I’m actually tempted myself. Throw some nice AT tires and a mattress in the back,,,

I had a 83 Subaru wagon so if I unscrewed the seat bottom which was 4 screws I could put a piece of foam in the back and easily sleep in there, i had  a buddy who used to sleep in the back of a passat sedan he just put the seat back down and feet in the trunk area

I don't reeeaaaally want an SUV.

I bought an SUV. A first gen Toyota Highlander V6 AWD. In the end it ticked the most boxes and as SUVs go it's pretty understated, and doesn't carry the 'cool' premium. Came in under budget with  full inspection, new timing belt and a few other things done.

Saw an older Toyota Matrix AWD with offroad tires, a rooftop tent and a box on top, hitch mounted spare tire carrier, loaded to the gills with a family of four from out of province on their best camping adventure.

You don’t necessarily need a truck or SUV.

Congrats! Pics or it didn't happen. Preferably after the AT tires are on.

Ha ha. Yes I will probably purchase some beefier tires once I know the Highlander isn't going to explode on me. It totally owned the gravel car park at One Mile Lake today though.

I had one of those for a while, good little winter car.

I put cooper discoverer st's on it, i would go where my suburban would spin out in the snow and get stuck

They do like to drink oil.  There is a known issue with a baffle under the valve cover directing oil to the pcv valve and burning it off

Thanks, yeah I'd spotted that they can have a quench for oil so I'll keep an eye on that for sure.

We have an older Rav and now that we're camping a lot more and our kiddo is getting huge and in to his own stuff the Rav is starting to feel small.

We're not really after a massively off road capable adventure-mobile but something like a 2013-2015ish Honda Pilot. Little bigger, little taller, can fit more inside, roof bars, hitch, seems like a great vehicle for what we need.

Swapped out the tonneau for a fancy aluminum hardtop. Spent my first night in it last weekend. Brought the wrong sleeping bag so I was pretty cold and the whole interior canopy surface was wet with condensation in by morning. Not the best sleep. Still some kinks to iron out for sure but there's definitely potential there. The back flap was open the whole night so maybe I just need to hang a blanket in front of it or something. Next item on the list is an awning. Not planning on building anything in the flatbed or getting a rooftop tent ever as I still primarily use the truck for work. Considering getting a cot to sleep on instead of the air mattress so I'm raised up off the cold flatbed a bit.

I put new catalytic converters and a stainless MBRP exhaust on my truck last week.

This week new Upper control arms to replace my clapped out SPC junk, replaced front driveshaft u joints, the needle bearings were just dust haha.

Condensation is a definite bitch to deal with when sleeping in vehicles.. could look at adding some insulation to the inside walls of the canopy? I've kinda given up on the roof top tent and just been using our big ground tent queen size air mattress.. way more room and I can set it up and drive away for a day trip etc.

Nsmb.com haha

I don't really put a lot of images on the internet anymore. Wife takes hundreds of pictures everywhere we go and uploads them to her stash so she is the keeper of the memories these days.
