^an AWD Astro/Safari will kick a Delica's ass in every way.

Except for the somewhat major point that it is a GM.

One of these days I'll sort out some type of bunk beds for this thing.

The wood stove is great but I do need to install a damper to help control the burn.

Look at the 3rd picture. I do need a better storage system.

Most of the time it is filled with dirt bikes so it does work well for my needs.

I like the AWD astro/safari alot as a small camper platform and I'd happily build one to suite my needs but it's hard to find a lower mileage model in reasonable shape that's new enough to use as a long distance driver.

anyone have opinions on the Mitsubishi Delica L400(rounder body style, 2.8td engine) ?

I'm shopping for a new vehicle right now, and no matter how much I want to stay away from the hipster-status of such things the inner dirtbag in me is having a really hard time passing up the diesel/4x4 capabilities/big enough to live in for a while status.

I don't want a conversion van (too much $$$, too big to daily drive), the Delica is the middle ground and would be enough for a few planned road trips this year…unless its prone to blowing cylinder heads and timing belts in the middle of nowhere.

One of our MTB club members has one like you mention. Only concern I would have even in BC is to make sure to get the thing treated to decrease salt destroying the metal parts.

Fair enough…but they are out there. The last model yr was only 10 yrs ago :)

Cool setup Nechako…how does that heater work? Pellet?

It is a miniature wood fireplace so pellets would work but the grate the fire sits on would need to be modified to hold the pellets better.

I burn 1"x5" pieces of wood. Small trees and branches are perfect. It only holds a small amount of wood so you do have to keep adding more fuel quite frequently. It also isn't an airtight design so it doesn't damper down too well.

On cold mornings it is very nice to have and keeps me from having to use the propane furnace too much.

yep but as with anything though, when you're wanting to buy there's none to be found. Only models I'm seeing are the cargo model with no back seats/no rear windows…I'd need one of those "don't laugh, your daughter might be in the back" stickers if I get that greasy

Not sure if this is the kind of thing you are talking about? They seem to have a few of them. Too old maybe? Too 'camperized' maybe?

Holy cow, that is one comfy and luxurious set up.

I found out a few weeks ago that our VW Touran can be modified for camping as well, not necessarily for a family of three, but for short solo, or father-and-son biking trips quite nice.
Bonus, I can do it myself.

Had to look that one up, we don't have it in NA as far as I know.

Totally forgot about that place! My Brother-in-Law was telling me about those last summer. From here originally, exported to Japan apparently, imported back….with seriously low K as you can see.
I want one.
