First you need to actually be a daddy before you can whine like a Seagull being ass raped.
Fuck that. Plenty of people who have kids are still completely clueless so simply having one doesn't make you an expert.

How many teachers voted to scrap the HST? Our Province is broke people. What I would do to have 8 weeks off in a row. I take one and sh*t hits the fan.

Zero. The teachers are highly skilled and intelligent people, so they know that the HST is a good thing.

Teachers spend a good portion of that time preparing for the upcoming year. Lesson plans don't write themselves and any teacher worth their salt has a procedure planned out for every hour of every school day.
The type of teaching I do is a little different but for every hour I'm in the classroom I usually spend at least an hour sometimes two hours preparing for it and I usually spend about 20 hours in the classroom a week. A public school teacher will likely spend less time preparing than an esl teacher but the fact remains that a teacher's work is far from over when the 3'oclock bell rings.
People who don't teach also have no idea how exhausting it can be to stand in front of a group of kids and try to keep their attention day after day. Having been on both ends I can say with full confidence that speding 12 hours busting your ass on a construction site isn't nearly as draining as doing 6 hours of teaching.
Get rid of stuff like this and lessen the load for the teachers.

Anyone know that commercial from the BC government about their "Education Improvement Plan" or something like that where they say they are giving XX million dollars to teachers?
They are only doing that because the supreme court decided that how they legislated teachers back to work last contract time they violated their rights and ruled that they compensate teachers for their wrongdoing… To the tune of the exact amount that they are now advertising they are so willfully contributing.
As an Albertan Teacher, I almost moved to Vancouver, but the difference in salary was just too much for me to pull the trigger. The riding here is awesome, just different. You guys pay so much for housing, but I can see why in such a beautiful city.
Teachers are paid well in Alberta and I don't complain. We deal with a lot of junk, but so does everyone else in the working world, that why it is called work.
Some teachers slack off and don't do their job just like any other job. They get weeded out, like ever other profession.
Kids say their teacher sucks because they make them work hard and the testing at some grades puts a lot of pressure on everyone.
Kids are awesome that is why I am a teacher.
Do my BC counterparts deserve more money? Please volunteer in a classroom for a few days and decide for yourself.
Quoted for Albertan grammar failure.

Gee,you sound pretty important.
Who determined that schools should be closed all summer anyways?
Wasn't there a recent push for year round school?

Because back in the early 1900's many people farmed, so kids would have the summer off to help their families on the farm.
That's the issue. Being good at what you do is not nearly as important as how long you've been doing it when you're in a union. The cream doesn't float to the top, the mold does.
The less you pay, the less cream there is whether it is at the top or bottom.
I do agree that the way the BCTF operates doesn't help the good teachers. My wife has been on the wrong end of seniority after she took over a contract. She had to re-apply to get the full time position at the end of the year, which looked to be no problem until a teacher 2 years from retirement decided to take her job because she wasn't getting along with the teachers at her school and wanted to have a comfortable last couple years.
Changing this doesn't necessarily mean getting rid of the union though. Besides, that would never happen anyway.
Something I learned over the weekend which I don't see mentioned much is that the government legislated that the BCTF cannot negotiate class size or composition. The courts ruled that this was not legal and gave the government until April to change it, but from what I understand their latest legislation would do the same.

To watch the crops grow? Sounds like a sweet gig for the kids. Mom and Dad do all the spring planting, kids get off in summer and watch for magpies stealing corn, go back to school in the fall, Mom and Dad work the fall harvest.
Here's where I stand. I kinda support the teachers on an individual bases. Class composition should be foremost as the main concern. Wage should have never been brought up. And because of that, I think their union rep is doing their cause a major disservice.
So many average joes over the past couple of years have either lost a job or taken pay cuts to keep a job. It's hard to swallow our taxes, which we have to pay on a lower wage, paying for their wage increase while I don't see an increase in my near future. So because of that I support the Gov and their zero mandate.

I can think of some other jobs that are like this.
