I took my N test with an automatic transmission, but now I have to do it with a standard transmission.

I drive fine with it on a day to day basis, but is there anything specific I should know before taking my class5 with this car?

It's a 96' Ford Explorer

When parking uphill make sure the vehicle is in first gear and when parked downhill put the vehicle in reverse. Kudos to you taking it in a manual

It's passable. I did it. Get the road tester to start telling you about her 14-18 year old daughter.

You'll even be able to accidentally speed through school zones.

Think you're not supposed to shift while turning through an intersection if you were stopped at the light. I might remeber something about being in second gear while making a turn as well - though I am not sure at all. I have a class 4 and drive a standard, but have never tested on one.

Don't have your hand on the shifter for any longer than it takes to shift, and don't shift while going through an intersection. Both are automatic fails if i remember correctly.

I did my class 5 test in an auto but was driving a manual pretty much all the time. I told the examiner that I have a tendency to drive with my right hand on the shifter and he said as long as I was using both hands when making a turn that was fine.

Seems to me the biggest thing people fail for is not shoulder checking sufficiently.

As long as you're comfortable driving the car you'll be fine. I did my n and class 5 tests in a standard.

I think everyone should have to take the 5 with a standard. It would force people to get better.

is going big on a bike the only way to get you stoked on the sport? what happened to riding with your bros, travelling, and riding unique places, to get people stoked on riding?

fines are useless. there needs to be more punches to the throat.

oh yeah! Hand off the shifter and on the steering wheel unless you're shifting.

Maybe that's why you are not supposed to shift as you are turning in an intersection - the whole 2 hands on the wheel bit.

Maybe, I always thought it was so that if you stalled you wouldn't be blocking the intersection.

Remember that cruising in neutral gear is illegal. Some people do that, I don't but just FYI.

no shifting in intersections make sure you're in reverse if they park you on a down hill, 1st if you're parked facing up. after shifting put your hands back on the wheel immediately don't coast and don't rev the shit out of anything…

Don't shift on railroad tracks either. Auto fail.
