I visit this guy once a year for custom fits: http://www.maxwellsclothiers.com/

Really liked the suits, I have found better shirts elsewhere.

Don't mess around, hit up Harry Rosen at the Oakridge Centre (good store, free parking, saves the hassles of the downtown location). Call ahead and ask for Terry Louie. This guy will take exceptional care of you. If he wonders who referred you, just tell him his buddy in Whistler sent you down. Terry and I have have had a terrific 5 year consumeristic relationship

I suggest buying a nice suit at somewhere like Harry Rosen and then accessorize at other shops. I have bought the Brax line of pants there, they are not the cheapest but wear extremely well and can be worn with a sport coat for a casual look.
Other suggestions are Angelo's tailors on the drive for custom made shirts. They will make them for the same price as a Boss shirt and fit better than off the rack.

Second Suit on 4th ave. Unreal consignment stuff for 1/2 price that looks like new, or is.

Other suggestions.

Bit of an update. First thanks for all the advice. Good stuff there.

I went to the Bay downtown. Lots of good options on the 6th floor. The suits and shirts are even organized into a skinny section which keeps the searching to a minimum. Hudson room brand stuff looked like really good quality. Unfortunately, nothing fit without needing too much in the way of tailoring. I tried on a really nice CK slim fit suit, but again, the fit was a bit off. The kicker here is I really need something for this weekend. So no alterations was a want.

Took the elevator down to Topmans. Quality seemed decent and style was good. Prices seemed low so I was a bit skeptical on the material, feel and fit. What sealed the deal was I just so happened to get help from the Men's personal shopping assistant. Nice guy and helped put together a complete outfit that fit like a glove. He got my size the first try and showed me a few different suits. Ended up buying there cause the fit, style and service were top notch. They have everything for an outfit, but I ended up getting shoes, tie, pocket square, and belt at other places.

Pocket square, spread collar to go with that?

That Topman place looks like it's got some nice stuff.

Is there a Vancouver in Taiwan?! I had no idea!!

How'd that go?
