Suggest to me a small SUV

looking for a newer, 0-50K KM small SUV with good fuel economy. It doesn't have to be a truck even, just something that sits a bit higher than your average car. Something you can slide right in to instead of crouching down to the driver seat. Front wheel drive is fine. $25,000 is about the max.

I am looking at a Mazda CX5 which is probably the closest to what I want but I am open for other suggestions.

Used 2010 Mercedes GLK if you can find one. They come up in Toronto and Ottawa around 25k but Vancouver is flashy so they command a premium.

We bought the new Santa Fe but the new Escapes are really nice as well. Your choices will depend on what you want to do with it though. List what features you want and go for a lot of test drives.

Mazda CX-5. SKYACTIV engine is ultra smooth and the interior is super quiet and comfortable. But the infotainment and navigation sucks (if you care).

Also check out the Kia Sportege or Hyundai Santa Fe. Both are pretty beefy and powerful.

Ford has incorporated way too much technology into their vehicles and their reliability has suffered severely as a result. Don't get me wrong, the Ford Focus wagons are great, but for a 5 passenger cross-over, there are better choices out there…

4 cylinder RAV4 or CRV. Mileage is decent, drive is pretty good, reliability is great, and roominess is very good.

CX-5 if you want something sportier; bigger engine would be better as mileage difference is small.

These can be had within your price range and mileage.

Newish Forrester seems roomier, and it's a nice vehicle.

AWD vehicles don't get very good mileage while being driven around Vancouver.

I rented a Ford Edge for the drive from Edmonton to Ft Mac. Both on the way up and down it consumed 2/3s of a tank for covering 650km's. All with power to spare, once you step on it and let the ecu work. As mentioned, there is a little too much tech on the console but overall, I found it pretty comfortable and semi seamless coming from a mid size sedan. Dont get me wrong though, I wish I did have my car (turbo awd) for that drive as the passing lanes are plentiful and dotted center's are everywhere.

We bought my wife a 2009 Hyundai Tucson AWD . great vehicle . sits higher , a fair bit of room . had it since new, zero issues.. the v6 is a touch thirsty but has all the power needed to get up a hill or on the highway .
we have a rack on the back , four people four bikes lots of logging roads handles like a champ .
we would buy one again….

Not sure of the new body style (2010-present) seems to have a little less room than hers, but same running gear i declare a winner.

Skyactiv FTW. I have it in my 3 and the fuel mileage is unreal.

We have a 2010 Escape (4 cyl, AWD) that I've been happy with but haven't looked at the newer body style or other comparable small SUVs.

I think he has a budget, and likely doesn't want frequent large repair bills.
