I used to drive 75km each way for work, 50mins each way. Never again.
Squamish to Vancouver, Anyone commute every day?
Anyone still reading this thread?
IF so, have any of you Squamish to Van. commuters ever used the Park and Ride option at Lion's Bay or Horshoe Bay?……or that Bus service with the 3month passes?
I just moved to Squamish and no, I have never used that service. I drive our Civic most days to keep the cost down and I enjoy the drive usually. I am also hoping to work a day a week from home soon.

where abouts?
where abouts?
In the Elements, right beside the Government Road bridge over the Mamquam. We are just settling in, but so far so good.
I used to do that. It was terrible.
Coupled with the ridiculously overpriced real estate market in Squampton, it eventually drove us to move back to the Island. What a waste of gas and increase in footprint.
I did get in on the carpool service but again. What a waste of time.

I moved from Burnaby. It is a matter of perspective. To me, Squamish is a bargain.
^ the market has been falling hard up here. My house appraisal was down $30k from last year. Think it was $475k and at one time was over $605k
We should go for a ride sometime.

That's awesome!! Your property tax bill has been reduced by about 10%!!
Kn.
When one person suffers from a delusion, it is called insanity.
When many people suffer from a delusion, it is called religion.

That is why we thought we would rent for a year. Partly to get a better idea of where we want to live but also because the market isn't really pushing us into it yet.
Ride? I have been getting fatter since my daughter was born so that is probably not a bad idea. I am looking at getting another bike this spring. I still have my old bike but it doesn't inspire me much.
Thanks for all the feedback……….we live….very nearly ride in, ride out here behind Hartland and I use the VWC riding property too quit a bit…. I got a big job offer in downtown Van. So w are considering renting in Squampton…it seems to be thebestlifdestylecompromise if I can get to work easily/cheaply enough……wish me luck!
I have an ex that moved up to Squamish a few years ago. She's an avid climber and backcountry skier. Her reasoning was that all summer long she would be able to climb in the evenings and for winter weekends she'd be that much closer to the Duffy.
After a long day at work the last thing I'd want to face was a bridge crossing and a long drive. Time I could be spending relaxing at home, hitting the gym, going for a ride or whatever.
After two years she says that the drive is really wearing her out. But what it did achieve was her commitment to a lifestyle change, to living in Squamish, and a the new incentive to develop a professional life away from the city. She hasn't managed it yet but she loves living in Squamish and so is now on the hunt for the right job up there.
If there was a good commuter train service I think a lot of people would move there in a heartbeat.
For me driving up to Squamish on weekends is totally acceptable, pleasurable even. I commute 8km from East Van to Kits every day which is basically nothing. Moving to Squamish would mean two rush hour bridge crossings to every single day. For me, not worth it.
There's nothing better than an Orangina after cheating death with Digger.
My wife and I moved up here last year from Kits. We adjusted our work schedules so that we would not hit any of the traffic on the bridge to DT, and we get home by 5pm. Being able to only work 4 days per week is also a bonus. The commute is nothing to worry about. We went from an 8min walk to work to a 60min drive, and have no regrets. For me getting in the car after work and driving for an hour is a great way to unwind. And the sea to sky on a beautiful sunny day is always a bonus. Getting home we still have plenty of time to go for a ride or walk which is the sole reason we moved to Squamish in the first place.
I was impressed with the amount of talent in Nesters the other day. Where did they all come from?
Why slag free swag?
ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

he gets it
So it must be like 75kms each way or so………a fuel efficient
vehicle would be a MUST…15-20 dollars a day in fuel x 22 working days a month=400CDN or so a month plus some maintenance/wear and tear…. Food for thought.
