How's France doing with it?

I think you need to describe what Socialism is.

In the case of Francey pants, it's too many hand outs and not enough feet moving.

I read and was under the impression that they raised gas due to social programs needing more funding.

And the French protester's were also unhappy that they're dime was going to support social programs for the migrants.

Perhaps I should bump an old thread for this.

Today I learned the definition of socialism is, "too many hands outs and not enough feet moving".

Kids call that a TIL btw.

How would you explain it?

A product or service that is owned and operated by the community that uses it.

TIL Reductitron doesnt understand socialism. Your's sounds more towards that of a utopian commune.

I think you're missing one of the fundamental building blocks of socialism and that being taking from the have's and giving to the have not's and those who "just do not(hing)". Similar to welfare.

You should look into what Will Smith's tax bracket in France would've been.

The beauty of today is that you can co-opt the meaning of a word and not be apologetic about it.

If you want to believe something like our healthcare system is a utopian commune, all the power to you.  If you want to believe socialism is "too many hands outs and not enough feet moving", even more power to you.  If you want to believe the earth is flat, knock your socks off.

You may have co-opted something but I did not AND, there's also no beauty in co-opting. Thats a liberal left wing thing to do - like selling guns to African Country's and calling it Economic Aid. I didnt mention healthcare or flat earf. I also know the difference between the two and thinly veiled ad-hominen attacks and "jokes".

I also know that in regular Communism as opposed to Marxism, every one works in the commune as they "technically" own the commune.

I also know that in textbook Socialism, its a redistribution of wealth which stifles economic growth as there's more incentive to be lazy than to produce because someone else will do it. Which means when not enough people move their feet but those same people have their hands out, then costs of related programs will only go up. But who actually pays for that program and how?

ps: Will Smith's tax bracket in France would've been 75%.

I understand the definition of socialism I supplied does not fit your narrative.

Tell me how our health care system isn't socialist.

Well we are co-opting things here so narratives are next right ;)

Why are you asking me about socialized health care? We used to have SIN cards - first word is Social.

What if we actually can agree on something?

I suspect if we were to make a list of everything one could have an opinion on, we'd agree on nearly everything.

That said, if you don't think "A product or service that is owned and operated by the community that uses it" describes socialism, we use English differently.

I think you mean we'd agree on everything outside of this forum then?

Perhaps I'm including too much possession and the ability to change things myself when I think of owning and operating.

I think what you're describing was once known as freeware and now opensource.

I’m here.  I still think “A product or service that is owned and operated by the community that uses it" describes socialism.

Like our healthcare.  Or providing money to foreign owned oil companies.

To perish or to radically transform the way we relate to one another and to nature, that is the question humanity has never had to face until now.

The evidence backing the above assertion is strong and accumulating. Nevertheless, there remains a stubborn problem of awareness as many who understand the perils facing humanity fail to connect them to its source: the capitalist organization of planetary life. Failure to address this problem will only guarantee that the predictable future characterized by immense suffering associated with a generalized social collapse and ecological ruination on a planetary scale will come to pass.

In this brief essay, I will tackle this problem of awareness by addressing a series of thematically-related questions that are often raised by those who question whether the source of the problems we currently face can reasonably be said to be the capitalist system...........
