Socialism

I find year after year those most vocal against socialism go silent when it comes to health care.

Are any monkeys left wanting to argue how much better the Americans have it over us?

Maybe.

I'm sure the 500 people who added $1 Trillion to their accounts for 2017 would disagree. 

Except for those Saudis who were jailed by their cousin/nephew/new overlord

With the sphere of influence looming large over Canada, one has to leave north America to see just how bad the Americans truly have it.

Socialism has its merits,and those going silent are probably doing so because they got distracted by something else.

Are you referring to the original political idea of socialism/communism?

I have a colleague in the New York that is convinced there is an endless stream of Canadians heading south for their superior health care.  He sends me articles that usually rely on studies from the Fraser Institute.  They certainly do have some better facilities down there but he isn't convinced by our better outcomes overall.  One thing that I learned in debating the issue with him is that even though they don't have universal health care, their federal government actually spends more per capita on health care than we do.  I was shocked to learn they pay more in taxes towards healthcare than Canadians and still need private insurance.  Whatever the best answer is, Americans are not even close to it.

Referring to those who think government run organizations that collect money outside of taxes is Socialism.

What about the idea of slashing income taxes to cover only the bare minimum and the rest is made up by flat rate consumption taxes that have different categories and rates?

He sends me WSJ articles and they love to "prove" that single payer doesn't work because we have long waits for specialists.

Regressive?

The basic economic and social unit is the family.  It's as socialistic as it gets, and even the staunchest conservative is fine with it.

Just think how the USA could help their citizen's healthcare concerns if they cut military spending just a little bit.

If they diverted 25% of their military funding toward science they'd set themselves up for the next hundred years.
