i dont think its very easy to set some like that up as CNC though and it wont be as good of machine either. the setup your talking about would be great for limited space or funds though.

Yeah I can just do more stuff with a mill, plus I have a lathe at work that I can use if needed. Once I have the cnc conversion done I would love to prototype some stuff for members on here. I'll post pics on here as the conversion goes through the many stages.

Do you need step motors when you convert it to CNC?. Bike parts are mostly aluminium so high speed steel onserunds will work and you can resharpen them! I fed parts onto a 5th axis CNC mil. at Race Face.
Then I bought a lathe and made some fly reels.

That's awesome, I've always wanted a milling machine. What did you pay?

After all is said and done about 4k. I went down to the states and picked this up for $1500 us. I could have gotten a bigger machine but space in my townhouse is limited lol. Tooling is by far the most expensive part, a good vide alone is pushing $400.

Boeing used to sell all there used tooling for dirt cheap. A friend of mine with a home shop used to go down and pick up stuff and said it would be in great shape and the price made it worth the trip. This was some years ago, so i'm not sure if they still do it or not.
