the e-mail said this was from coquitlam. could be, but could be anywhere.

Any chance you could verify the location?

it would be badass to go hand to hand combat with that beast. I figure with a steak knife it'd be an even fight.

I'm sure you'd kick it's ass.

($1000 on the cougar)

a strong human with a big stick would certainly have a decent shot at fending a cougar off…

not kill it but certainly get it to move along.

a human with a knife wouldn't have such a good chance because once the cougar was in that close a range you'd be pretty much dead.

i dunno about verify, but the two from addresses before the guy who sent it to me are shaw and telus e-mail addys, so there's a bit better chance it's really from where they say it was.

Check my stuff for sale!

Anyone remember the guy on Vancouver Island who fought off a cougar with his pocket knife?

there was some lady who was fishing along the river (somewhere in montana - i think) and he fought off the cougar by stabbing it in the eye with his forceps.

animal control doods found the cougar a few miles away and it still had the forceps stuck in it's eye.

In 04 or 05 two people were riding the Flank Trail in Whistler. It's on Rainbow and Sproat Mountains, across the valley from Whistler and Blackcomb. Right around the waterfall trail, a cougar began chasing them.

One was new to riding. They pedaled away as fast as they could, but the cougar chased them down. The newb got nervous and grabbed a fistful of brake, stopping him pretty fast.

The cougar wasn't expecting it, and had to put on the brakes. Apparenlty he went into a four-paw skid, sliding past the newb and his bike.

Then it came back, and the rider had to fend it off with his bike, using the frame as a shield.

Both riders got away eventually.

Yikes!
