hey there boys and girls

somehow i got a virus or trogan horse or something on my comp after 15 years of interwebbing without one

i use AVG free and it is picking up a bunch of registry stuff, it cleans it and then when i do a scan again it finds a bunch more.

since this happened i am not interweb banking or anything important so i am not worried on that end but it is a pain in the ass (pop ups come up in firefox windows that look like virus scanners etc etc)

should i be getting a different/better virus prgram /spyware removal or something?

this space is intentionally blank, other than this note about it being blank.

you might wanna check out Avast! they have a pretty decent free product and it comes with real-time scanners for browsing, email and messenger type applications which will pick up any intrusions as they happen and it will neutralize them immediately before they can do any damage. Just keep the speaker volume low because it updates the "virus definition database" almost daily and when its done it lets you know, can be a scary wake up call in the middle of the night.

is there any free scans for macs? I know they're supposed to be almighty, but my computers been acting like a coked out whore for the last little while, might be the drop finally getting to it (dropped it around xmas, worked fine but looks super haggard) or just having so much crap on it, but it's running significantly slower, and some stuff has been bugging out. Wondering if it's possibly a virus

(i do visit questionable sites occasionally as well as torrenting, watching movies, and have gotten those fucking rick roll and similar links sent…)

or if anyone knows of a program that finds and deletes any duplicates…..

sorry for the thread Jack.

That's what happens when you download your donkey porn from questionable sources.

1st thing I'd do is go to here http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and run their anti virus. It's off your machine so virus can't fuck with it, and it's free. Once it cleans everything up then install something new.

if you just delete the folder called "system32" then run the anti-virus software you should be good

Do what heatmizer said…

Then download either Avast (my personal fav) or Sophos…used to love nod32 till I got infected with it running on my comp and it didn't do shit.

But really the only way to really be sure is to back your shit up (you should be saving the good stuff to another drive or some other means of backup device anyway…right?) and do a nuke and pave…I have spent hours and hours trying to clean some of the new shit up and it's just so much better to nuke and pave….that the reason I back all my shit up now, that and I am on a work laptop so I just stick a new image on it and BAM…I am up and running…love it.
