Long story short:

Found an injured owl in the middle of the road here in Vernon, and it looks to have a broken wing. It can still hop around a tiny bit, but guaranteed it is scared shitless.

The Animal hospitals aren't open uintil 7:30am and I have it sitting in an enclosed box in my house, with a hole cut in the top, with tiny slices of apple and a bowl of water.

Hopefully this little guy gets flying again in no time after the vet visit.

also, if I take it to the vet, will I get charged if they do anything to it?

Awwwwwwww he's cute!!!
The vet will most likely call a proper animal rehabilitation place. There's one for birds somewhere around BC, and I'm sure that they'll take good care of him. And not charge you.

:orly:

They will most likely not charge you, or will refer you to an outdoor wildlife society.

The bird is really cute. I'd be tempted to keep it.

first off owls are carnivoresā€¦

also you should call a game warden or someone who works with animals thats a government official, they should be able to refer you to a proper rehabilitation center. most owls are protected species and you could get in trouble for having it no matter how good your intentions are.

good luck jaysin

jake has come through for me before, I fully suspect he is just trying to find all his clothes and finishing up breakfast

the spca won't do anything but if they are open they can give you the number for the local wildlife rescue which is where you need to take it.

ride a horse! 1200 pounds of raw muscle, power, grace, and sweat between your legsā€¦
but riding bikes is still fun!

Agreed. One of my favourite (groups of) animals! So elusive and reclusive. Props to Jaysin for helping out!

Owl in a box is watching you masturbate.

Nice samaritan work, Jaysin. Sometimes I hear owls hunting at night around here - they sound like the pterodactyls in Jurassic Park. It's creepy but also very cool at the same time.

Here are some places to contact:
http://www.wrn.bc.ca/WRNBC_rehabilitators.htm

One of the guys here at work, his wife worked for OWL in Delta (on the list).

Since you are up in Vernon, maybe contact South Okanagan Rehabilitation Centre for Owls down in Oliver.
