Since no one's right to free speech is being violated by Twitter, no, I don't think it's about free speech. It's about reducing moderation on a social media platform for whichever causes Papa Elon decides.
It will be interesting to see how far Musk takes it. I'm hoping for a full unmoderated platform, see how deep this sewer can get before we wake up to the fact that Social Media platforms should be nuked from orbit.

Something about it makes me feel uneasy, cause that's a lot of $$$ to drop on "free" speech.

Bingo. It's not free speech it's what Elon thinks should said and heard.

Elon is the last person we need as the self-proclaimed champion of "free speech"
Probably buying it so that next time he pumps and dumps, he can delete the evidence before the SEC catches him.
He's probably going to unban Trump.
It's foolish to believe this is anything but an opportunity to manipulate massive amounts of people.

That might be a net positive. The one thing that could help rally democratic turnout for the midterms is reminding people of the alternative.

It'll be interesting to see how everyone reacts to "free speech" (which we dont have here on the nbr anymores). Where would he start - a blanket unbanning of bans? Maybe he turns in Oprah and everyone gets a bluecheck mark?
If you're thinking this isnt about free speech, youre probably right since there's so much information to be had from the backend aside from the algo's and bot's.
And just on the note of unbanning Trump, I'd lol if Elon claimed to have found evidence of fraud in 2020 in/on their servers.
