Oh NBR, knower of all things, I am looking at renting a condo in The Elements in Squamish but I heard it can get smelly there being close to the treatment plant. Can anyone vouch for this and how often / how bad are we talking? I have been through that area a lot recently looking at places and I didn't notice anything.

They do daily releases of untreated liquid which can't help the situation.

I think any liquid goes into the Squamish River, not the Mamquam though, so that shouldn't make any difference.

Upon some research it sound like the centrifuge broke down for 12 days in 2011, so that might be where I my info came from.

I live within a couple blocks of a treatment station on Queens road by Government road and it only rarely stinks and only for 50m on either side of the treatment station (or whatever you call it), it's a pumphouse of some kind.

The only time it stinks is within about 500m of the dog pound or whatever it is they have going on there between the railway bridge and the gov't road bridge on the north side of the river.

Hahaha … unlikely.

Excess flow would just bypass the plant and go into the outfall, and straight out to some deep part of Howe Sound … so no odour release at the plant site.

Good to know. Thanks. It looks like I will be a… Squamtonian? Squamishite? Squatamalan? by mid January. :)

Funny-looking hermit that lives next to the poop plant.

I was thinking that too but some guy I bumped into said that wasn't the case. Can any confirm/deny that? I'd love to know because my dog loves to jump in the river and despite the fact she's not come out of the water smelling bad (yet) I'd feel safer in letting her swim at that part of the river if I new it wasn't getting untreated sewage dumped in it!

It occasionally emits a smell-doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the timing of it though. It's not a big concern for me.
