Apparently surrey's finest couldn't handle the reroute…
Skagit River Bridge Collapses.
Also…
Barge crane on it's way from Seattle for the demolition. A friends company just got hired for the demo.
Why does nobody have a photo of the truck and the load? I'd be curious to see what was on the back of that truck that caused so much damage.

So … since I don't know about truck transport regs …
What is the level of responsibility of the driver of the pilot vehicle? Is that driver supposed to be doing the spotting for the trucker? I assume the drivers are in continuous radio contact so the pilot driver can instruct the trucker?
Just curious.

When many people suffer from a delusion, it is called religion.
Is that bottom picture the damage from hitting the bridge? You could do that much damage with a sledge hammer in 2 or 3 blows. Is that all it takes to bring down a 4 lane bridge?
Way back from the old school days of NSMB…
There is at least one photo of the bridge where you can see the damage the trailer caused to the bottom of the I-beam web on at least 2 of the members.
(Sorry I don't have a link to the pic, saw it last night as part of a photo set on one of the news sites.)

For that style of bridge, yep, it's possible. Which is pretty much why major bridges are no longer designed that way.

There's an eyewitness interview on King5.com
http://www.king5.com/news/local/Witness-recounts-oversized-truck-striking-bridge-208767601.html
Apparently, this eyewitness (truckdriver himself) passed the truck as they were getting onto the bridge and was in the fast lane between the truck and flag vehicle when the incident happened. Eyewitness claims the following:
- lead vehicle's indicators started hitting bridge
- truck hit upper right hand corner of bridge and almost tipped over (wheels came off ground)
- Bridge girders started falling immediately after that (seen in rear-view)
- apparently, truck was closer to lead vehicle than should have been considering the speed and size/weight of truck.
It will definitely be interesting to see what the NTSB concludes after their investigation.
Certainly, this eyewitness account and the dent on the truck casts doubt on the claim made by the truckdriver's wife: "Scott said her husband did not know he had clipped the bridge" (CBC story)

Look at the structure design and rethink your statement.

How the fuck does one miss a 2 plus lane bridge in broad day light?

[HTML_REMOVED]KenN mode[HTML_REMOVED] That photo was taken in broad daylight but it doesn't mean the incident happened in broad daylight [HTML_REMOVED]/KenN mode[HTML_REMOVED] :)

Isn't the one I was talking about above, but you can see the same damage to the bottom of the I-beam, that you could see on the horizontal beams on the section that failed.
