Short term car options

Other than just buying a car and then selling it does anyone have any experience of a long term rental / short term lease. We might need a second car for about four months from this April. Cheers.

I have zero experience but would seriously consider one of these in your situation.

Forgotten about that we are already members of modo will definitely look again, from memory standard rentals are cheaper after a couple of days, unless you want a specific vehicle, minivan / truck for example.

If you don't need a newish vehicle, what about the companies like rent-a-wreck? They rent used cars.

Before I owned a car, I tried rent-a-wreck a few times and was always able to find a better deal from one of the majors (albeit, this was only for around 5 days).

My dad has done some longer rentals when he comes over (2-3 weeks) and always seems to be able to get better deals from travel companies in the UK.

There are a number of company's around town that allow you to pick up a lease from someone who no longer needs the vehicle. It can be months to years depending on the vehicle and amount of lease left. It is usually someone who gets transferred or moves and does not want to transport the vehicle so they dump the lease.

Google is your friend.

Using the pools like Modo, etc. is somewhat limited by how much you need to use the car. They have limits on how many times/month you can use a pool car.

Lots of good enough $3000 vehicles out there. They don't depreciate much if at all…especially in under 6mths.

I know right. Like ok let's rent a car for 3 grand and throw that money away. When you could buy a decent beater and then sell it at the end for the same amount. Net loss = insurance + some transfer tax

Renting is a rip off. Lots of cars that work for $500 or less.

I think the used market is also a great option. When searching for a good deal type in moving as a keyword and there are always people keeping their cars right up to the end and then selling them for peanuts.

I heard there was a service that will hook you up with people at the end of their lease for a discount. Don't know much about it other than that.
