Agreed on the grinder being quick. Just don’t see it being quick if attached to an extension pole.
Sea to sky gondy
yeah, you'd need Popeye arms if that thing was on any sort of extension pole over a few feet
I really dont think it would be difficult at all. The towers have platforms at the top, giving easy access to the cable. Someone in a climbing harness could clip off so they dont fall. As Syncro said, the cut would take seconds. I bet the whole thing took less than 5 minutes. Hard to imagine anyone getting caught. I dont know how they could possibly secure the side of a mountain. They have to take the ladders off the towers but that makes maintenance or rescue a big question mark.
Good point about cutting the cable at a set of sheaves. If the cable ran under the sheaves & you put yourself over the sheaves, perhaps the cable would not fly at you. Zip disc on a cordless grinder would easily have enough power to cut thru quickly.
The perpetrator is wrong if they think this will cause the S2S gondy to cease operations permanently. IMO it will keep rebuilding every time. It has the support of the owner, the staff, the community & the paying public. The manager said he ordered a new haul rope 4 hours after he found out the old was one was cut.
Id be starting to wonder if they will be able to get insurance again? 5 million + dollars each time this happens, is going to make it tough to get someone who wants to back it. I sure hope they took down the info of the people who were caught up there a few weeks ago. Coincidence? Maybe. Sounds to me like they could have been testing the security/response times to see what they could get away with in the future? Maybe I've been watching too many bank heist movies....
Their insurance premiums must be very high.
I would think that an insurer would have made recommendations around security after the first cut. If the operator implemented security measures that met or exceeded what the insurer wanted, then they should be okay ... for now. If they catch the perp, then better still.
Looks like the video footage they have wasnt good enough.

They need to release the video. How else can we speculate and spread rumors about our shifty neighbors?
My latest theory is disgruntled local. There are a lot of old time Squamish folks that really hate the gentrification and all the people invading from Van.

My guess is DJ Khalid or Seabus Memes. Both would be able to profit off it. Plus there’s a meme depicting this very scenario. 🤔 That’s the perfect decoy for someone or some people who did do it!
Also from the wording sounds like the 1/4 mill will only be paid if a guilty conviction is made. Like if the person is insane or not criminally responsible for their actions like a BC Liberal or some shit.
maybe the Squamish 5 are at it again ?

They really messed up their marketing by not calling themselves the”Squamish 7” 😂🙄
So it seems they have 'investigated' the gondola situation and decided it wasn't an accident. Only took two months....

Great, now they can start looking for the guy and certainly find him! Good work everyone.
