Funny and informative, a winning combo.

To answer your earlier question, I've picked up two new bottles in the last 3-4 months. Found an Ardbeg Corryvreckan in Edmonton airport for a decent price (BCL doesn't stock it) and also bought a little bottle of Edradour "Chateauneuf du Pape" finish cask strength -[HTML_REMOVED] http://www.bcliquorstores.com/product/127126

Got the Ardbeg based on a recco from this thread, haven't cracked it yet. Got the Edradour because I liked their normal 13 yo cask strength so trying something a bit different. It's delicious.

Nice choices everybody.

I want another Ardbeg, I really enjoyed the 10yo and only have a dram or two left.

NSR (not scotch related)

Re-discovered a bottle that I'd almost forgotten about. Havana Club Barrel Proof rum. Bought it in Cuba about 5 years ago for like 25 bucks - super expensive in Cuba! This shit is teh awsum, made for sipping, not for destroying by mixing with Coke or some shit.

Holy shit this is good.

Also, picked up a bottle of Gosling's Family Reserve rum at the Bermuda Duty Free on the way home last fall. Haven't cracked it yet. I'm expecting big things;

FYI folks, BCL has received some of the 2012 bottlings of Lagavulin 12 year. This stuff is much rarer than the standard 16, and it's cask strength also. I got my bottle.

Oh I drank some within 15 minutes of getting home with it!

I had it before too so I knew what I was getting into - my memory / palate aren't good enough to compare / contrast the different bottlings.

It doesn't have the huge peat of the 16 but there is definitely peat smoke present. It's a punch to the face without water - all you taste is burn. But with a bit of water it comes to life nicely, nice balance between peat and floral and spiciness. It's huge, even with water. Some harshness to it though. I wouldn't say it's as good as the 16 personally but it's worth having.

Neat. Is it really as dark as the picture seems to show? Like, almost black rum dark?

Going to be a good boy and wait until I'm off the hydromorphone.

Will report back!

Take pity on me, fellow Scotchites.

My inventory has been depleted, except for one (Is it even worth this term) "bottle"

One of my staff returned from India a week ago. I had asked for almost any of the Amruts (Doubting he could actually buy the variation I asked for). Lo and behold, I don't get an Amrut… I get [HTML_REMOVED]gak[HTML_REMOVED] Vat 69.

Ok, it was popular early last century, but give me a break. This stuff is swill.

Fear not. I'll rectify the situation this weekend.

Want to pick up a bottle of Oban for a scotch tasting early Jan but can't justify the $125. Thoughts on comparable/similar quality for less than $100?
