Anybody here collect Scotch? Have you tried or seen any interesting bottles lately?

I found a nice selection of older Glenfarclas at a local store so I think I'll maybe pick up one of those next.

The BC Liquor Store limited release in November had some interesting stuff.

I love sipping on a glass of it, but finding and having a few nice bottles saved for another day is fun too.

Depends what you like … peat/no peat, cask strength, what casks (sherry/bourbon/port/etc). Hard to make recommendations w/o knowing personal tastes.

However … two of my own personal favourites in the cabinet are:

Ardbeg Uigeadail - effing awesome smoke/peat. Strong but not over the top.

Bruichladdich 16 yo Bourbon cask - The bourbon flavour hides some of the peatiness that's typical of Islay whiskies. Damn good, I've just about finished my bottle, must shop again.

I'm not really looking for recommendations but more what are people finding and enjoying.

I almost bought the 16yo Bourbon cask for my Dad for Christmas. It was hard to decide, but I ended up going with a bottle of Jura Prophecy from the release. The Bourbon cask is on my "to buy" list.

I also picked up something for myself. :D

Nice, I'll be grabbing that soon.

Lagavulin 16 is one of my go-to bottles.

It's been a rough year…I started out with a nice selection of 10 different bottles and am down to 4.

Lagavulin 16 is my fave right now…but breakfast involved some Aberlour (sp?)

Aberlour A'bunadh is supposed to be quite good but I haven't tried it myself.

We have a bottle of Aberlour 10 on the shelf but I would have to say it is my least favourite of the ones we have open. IIRC, I find it lacks any distinct middle or finish. More like a basic blend than a good single malt.

I'll have to try it again and see if I can find more going on in it.

Looking online, it seems to be quite a bit cheaper. The Calgary Airport apparently has a store with a really good selection of Scotch. I wish I knew this when I went through there this summer.

Highland Park 18yo is $150 in BC and $114 in AB.

Only because it's not from Scotland. In a blind taste test, you wouldn't know the difference.
I just finished off all mine in a toast to my late grand dad. Jura Prophecy and Laphroaig 15. I need to go shopping.

Bottles currently open:
- Bowmore 12
- Ardbeg 10
- Not scotch, but an honourable mention, Alberta Premium 30 Year.

In reserve:
- Laphroaig 10
- Dalwhinnie 15
- Glenfiddich 12

Cheapest prices I've ever seen were at the duty free shop in the Auckland airport, followed by those in Heathrow.
