i don't follow current car modding scenes too closely so i realize this is old, but i was fascinated by this epic build thread. i generally love ghetto fab / rat rods, etc, and didn't know people were doing this to relatively modern cars. evidently 'rusting' is a thing. grinding off all your paint. kids these days. neat aesthetics though; great patina. ridiculous but so rad.

a quick progression:

epic thread:

i suppose this means 'beaterizing' is going to be the next big thing and we'll be able to buy spray on rust from canadian tire soon.

Hey IFO, you should have left your car the way you bought it, you didn't need to put in those hundreds of hours of work [HTML_REMOVED] thousands into it after all.

Just a new generations play on rat rods.

I had not seen the shots inside the bimmer, love the dash switches.

slacker customs. who's got time for all that fussy finish work anyways.

actually i kinda like this ideology: cars as tools for movement, meant to be driven into the ground, not polished and fussed over. granted, achieving this kind of aesthetic obviously requires allot of work (or years of abuse [HTML_REMOVED] neglect), so i suppose no different than any other customizing endeavour.

what's ifo got, btw?

Agreed.
Done simply for sake of being different, and it makes one hell of a statement. Just be sure you're up to date on the tetanus shots.

Bottom line for me is wheels and stance make a car, and those are easy to change. I got over worrying about a car's paint and my stress levels went down significantly! A rust car is a bit extreme, but if you look at a lot of cars like that, they often started as nice projects and some event led them down the path of devolution.

I don't like it, I think it is stupid. Bring on the heat.

How is this different from people wearing stupid looking stuff JUST to stand out?

See I don't get the "stance" thing.

I'll take a rat with everything dumped into performance any day.

Something like this.
