Yep, they use artillery to trigger avalanches. The concrete structures on the side of the highway (with the Shakespeare names) are gun platforms aimed at the slide paths.

hehehe ooops!
The only thing wrong with Kom. is SMS….great machines, especially in the midsized classes….the big boys are above average as well.
CAt should just throw in the towel on anything smaller than an 8…even the new electric 7 is a fail, except when it works, which is about as reliable as a newfie.
good buddy of mine is a HD mech for SMS in loops, building new dump trucks, front end loaders, dozers for the mine in princeton.

I think it is the old rail stations of the Kettle Valley Railway that have the Shakespeare names, although I would certainly give my cannon a cool name if I had one.

You're right, that's the origin of the Shakespeare names. The old station names have also been given to nearby features such as Mt. Iago, Portia peak, Juliet Creek, Jessica creek, etc… and in this case the gun platforms are also named. (I spend a lot of time in the coq/tulameen area…)
bear on bear violence, ahhh haaaa
