Do you know that an average of 22 veterans die by suicide every day? That means 22 died Saturday and through November 11th, 88 more veterans will die. Saturday[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s parade and November 11th means nothing to these 110 veterans. To illustrate the severity of this epidemic, by November 11th next year, 8,030 veterans will have died by suicide.

Freedom of contract. We sell them guns that kill them; they sell us drugs that kill us.

I took my children and our International Student to our Remembrance Day ceremony here in town, and then to the Cenotaph to lay a wreath. Our International Student is from Spain and he has never witnessed anything like this before, he quite liked the bagpipe band.

Lest we forget.

100 years since WW1 ended. Take some time to remember those who gave their lives.

If anyone wants a great way to learn more about WW1 I highly recommend Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast.  It took him years to put together and has a lot of source documents that bring the front line to life. The shit they went through was insane and the reasons for the continued fighting were even more insane.  One of the things that I learned from the show that I had never heard before was that the Germans snuck Lenin into Russia when the revolution broke out so that he could lead a Marxist movement and they would back out of the war.  Russia may have never become communist if not for that one act.

Good man Zed.  I missed this year (of all years to miss) because my brother flew in from Singapore, but he did serve in the Air Force so maybe I get a pass??

Went to the Remembrance day ceremony at the Murrayville cemetery in Langley. Just a few years ago there were maybe 12 people there at best. Since then word has got out urging folks to go. There were a couple hundred people this year, complete with bugle & the bagpipes. So good to see.

+ Here’s an aerial image of the working-class town of Grimsby, England. Each poppy represents a house that lost a resident in World War I.
