Make sure it has cast iron grates, this will ensure the great taste of slightly caramelized juices, and nice grill marks. Aluminum or others will never even get close, no matter how much you spend on it.
1. get an old truck rim
2. steal gas from your neighbour's vehicle
3. ????
4. profit!
great suggestions so far. thanks.
old one caught fire last night while GRILLING a porterhouse. nearly ruined. good thing i dont mind my beef a little tar tar.
do you burn off your grill ?
take the grates out ,turn over all those grease encrusted pieces of lava rock so the crap on the tops will burn off, turn the grates upside down as well
crank the gas full on ,the grill will SMOKE big time until all the shit burns off the grills and lava rock
keeping a spray bottle of water around will put out the fires
if the burner is fucked you can get replcements cheap
steak tar-tar. Not achieved by blowing up your Q.
its so old and the burners were so corroded that they caught fire!
well check the date on your tank cuz you need to chek it or replace it every 10yrs ,its cheaper to repalce a 20lber but you would need a new tank for a new grill anyhow
I am betting the burner is giving off a yellow flame because its so fucked that the air/propane mixture is no longer correct altho sometimes a castiron/stainless steel burner will just get plugged up holes from rusting cast iron
you can get a burner for around 50 $ depending on the model ,but then likely the grills and the grate that holds up the lava rock is also fucked which can also be repalced but it may be cheaper to buy a new grill

badonkadonk.
I've been using those ceramic plates over my grills burners…they're ok but not as awesome as they were supposed to be.
It stays "burnt off" as well cuz at least 2 out of 3 times that I use it, I get to at least 600*
I've used one of these quite a bit. They are great. Good for an apartment and small enough to take camping.
Consider adding one of these if you cannot get a BBQ with cast iron grates. No joke, this makes a HUGE difference (and yes, I listen to the Adam Carolla Podcast, but have had cast iron grates for longer than the show has been airing ;-)
tank was already replaced with fancy walmart one.
dude, the burner isn't just malfunctioning with an air mixture issue causing an orange flame that i may confuse with the barbeque being on fire. it actually caught fire. meaning, the burner assembly that you speak of ignited and all thats left of it is a mass of charred metal in the bbq that sort of caved in on itself.
during proper burning they will glow red hot in use …yours is caved in cuz its fucked probably rusted /burnt out
For all the masses that have put shrank on ignore, I present to you, his first useful post in 2 years. I have this little weber and it is great. Nice even heat, perfect size for an apartment and fits your budget.
 so true. thanks.
shin - i have this baby in polished stainless and it is awesome. cooks for 4 easy without upper grill for the veggie eating roadbike phags
I seriously considered getting a Weber Q for use both at home and camping - until my wife decided that we needed something that looked good on the deck, and I decided we needed something with a BTU output approaching that of the sun.
So we got a Weber Genesis (no regrets). However, I've cooked a couple of times on a buddy's Weber Q and I have to say it is LIGHT YEARS beyond the standard crappy portable ones in terms of build quality and performance. I was also surprized how much dead organic matter I could fit on that thing.
This one may be more in his price range. How can you say NO?!
