Questions about Freeriding for movie script thesis

Hi!
I'm working on a thesis (MFA) - a movie script. My script is about a couple of traveling freeride mountain bikers that have a unique way to cover some of their expenses. That part is the world that I'm making up. This script is crazy enough that it might get picked up [HTML_REMOVED] if not, I'm going to go indie with it.
I want the part about freeriding to be realistic so I have some questions.
1. How did you got into biking?
2. What kinds of competitions are there?
3. Can individuals register for races/events or is it more of
a team thing?
4. Do the races have multiple riders or singles being timed?
5. How do you get sponsors?
6. Do the majority of riders use clip-ins?
7. If there are multiple rider races, does anyone ever use
tricks to slow the other riders?
8. Are there any particular videos you might recommend?
If you can think of anything else I should know, please tell.
I've seen some of the short videos and have great respect for you guys and believe you have to be insane to try some of that stuff! It looks like fun.

Guys: I have been doing a lot of research. I know that I don't know that much about freeride mountain biking in particular. I've seen dh, xc, single [HTML_REMOVED] dual, [HTML_REMOVED] gone to a few local races, but is there specific freeride? - my son tried mountain biking out [HTML_REMOVED] couldn't afford it [HTML_REMOVED] and went BMX instead. I'd like the general population to see you guys in action because I think you're awesome athletes. I can always use BMX instead, but I liked the title "Freeride" for the script.

Well make sure you include Team Freetard considering they are the number one freeride mountainbike team this century. PM me for their agents phone number and I'm sure they will let you use them in your film for a case of beer. Labatt Blue should be the ticket.

well for me personally I just started endorsing products I was using at the time, and after I started winning, they came forward and expressed interest, pretty soon I was the poster boy for awesome athelte involved products like Viagra, Oxycontin, Bean-o, Prozak and Jack Daniels, they stood behind me and always hooked me even when I was loosing races or in jail. Repping all these great companies made realize why it was so important to win big freeride competitions like pedalworx and Lowlands. Also being clipped in was a no brainer, no footers, and tailwhips suck on flats.

Also for the title Free-ryde sounds more gnar.
