Private [HTML_REMOVED] Public. I pay ~2800, have a 24 hour claim guarantee, insure my house, quad, truck, trailer, and mortgage for that amount.

Things get a lot better when you hit +10 years safe driving. Yu pretty much get to a discount level that gives you a "free accident" card.

If you own a nice car I would shy away from private insurance. There great until you actually get into an accident. If you dont really care how your car is repaired and it saves you a bit of money go for private insurance.

i was shocked when I moved to BC at the insurance rates here. I'm paying double what I was paying in Alberta. Insurance here is a massive rip off

I disagree. Never had an issue with private insurance. Picked the auto body shop I wanted, zero hassle, easy loaner car, towing services, etc.

Also, price is less than ICBC.

Depends where you live. Rates are a lot higher in the lower mainland.

Rates have gone up in some small towns, but it used to be that I could insure a vehicle in Campbell River for 60 to 70 percent of the rate in Vancouver.

Best thing about a small town is you can drive a beater and get only basic coverage and pay very little for insurance. Can't really do that in the city.

As a body tech I can tell you for certain that private insurance is awful to deal with 90% of the time. It does not matter how good a tech is, If they are forced to repair a panel that should be replaced it sucks for the owner. If all you care is that your car is shiny after the repair than go with private insurance.

Crap. That's half of the rate in Vancouver.

People in Sooke got it too good.
