As usual, Elon Musk takes this to a whole new level.

guy is using an EOS DMLS machine (direct metal laser sintering), the thing is ridiculous: can print from titanium and other alloys to stainless steel parts. It costs 680k US$ with an 400w laser and there's the option for an 800w one if you put 50k more.

pretty much my dream machine.

apart from that, it is still a long ways before we can use this interface efficiently.
I currently work in the design industry and i use parametric software like the one depicted on the video and it can get very complex at times, so the r[HTML_REMOVED]d for an interface like that to work is gonna be a long one for sure.

still pretty exciting! =)

3d software is really hard to grasp for a beginner, but once you get used to the principles of modeling, all software is uses pretty much the same logic. That said, while Elon's video is quite impressive, the things he is saying are not new. Improved maybe, implemented to a more accessible hardware/software, but definitely not groundbreaking.

this is, to me, much more interesting:

this is just one example I can find ATM, there are more. Basically, i think the problems with hands free UIs is the lack of "surface feedback" (since you are modeling thin air) and accuracy (not because of sensor limitations, but because of inaccurate hand movements).

Printing from Ti, Al etc is nothing new as well. But it seems the technology progressed so far, that it is possible to print out fully functional, strong components.

But, I agree:

still pretty exciting! =)
