Porter Ranch CA Methane Leak

In accordance with Reductitrons request from the earfquake thread, this is for all things methane. Pretty sure we can blame this "event" for global climate change. iirc, it's emitting 700,000 cars worth of yearly emissions, a day. Feel free to correct me, which I know you guys love to do. Does this mean Cali has to pay more carbon credits since methane breaks down into co2?

I've read some interesting woo woo things such as Governor Brown has a relative on the board of SoCal energy which is why it took 2-3 months for a state of emerg to be declared, some Drs are (apparently) calling for the evac of LA and others things. Such as the no fly zone over head is not for fear of ignition but bc the methane would throw off the afr mixture for the planes engines (air fuel ratio) and they may stall.

Interesting video of a similar situation and a fix from the 70s:

Corporate greed at it once again?

So who’s to blame for a leak that cannot be stopped? Aging natural gas equipment may have contributed. According to documents filed with the California Division of Oil, Gas [HTML_REMOVED] Geothermal Resources, this particular well, referred to as Standard Sesnon 25, was originally drilled in 1953, and showed signs of leakage 24 years ago, in 1992. Inspectors reported that they could hear the leak through borehole microphones.
