Is being unveiled on February 20th. Should be available later this year.

Sony said we'd 'see the future' of PlayStation on February 20th, and it appears to be true: The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the company will not only reveal the next PlayStation at the event, but actually put the new video game console on sale later this year. According to the publication's anonymous sources, both the next PlayStation and Microsoft's next game system will compete head to head going into the holiday season.

My original ps3 is still rocking solid. and it sees a fair bu of use with netflix, media server streaming and games. hopefully the ps4 is the same way. prolly wont buy one for a while though.

Our PS3 is used for all the above as well, but it's been showing some signs of HD and blu-ray issues after all this time. Hopefully it can hang in there for another 6 months or so and create excellent timing.

have any of you put a SSD in your PS3? The whirring of the harddrive drives me crazy while streaming TV

Isn't the whirring the cooling fan? i know mine is prolly pretty bunged up with dust n shit.

gonna wait to find out if I can play all my xbox360 games on the new xbox until I think about purchasing either

So instead of a multiple PS2 super computer, I should wait 8 months for PS3's to hit the thrift stores???

Probably. The processor runs at a pretty high clock rate, and older models consumed more power. I noticed the Blu-ray drive can make whirring noise too, depending on the media that's inserted.

The new gaming stations are supposed to use 8 core processors from AMD and Intel, with GPUs by AMD and NVidia. Would be interest to find out why they went away from the CEL processors; maybe it's easier to work with the mainstream units as well as making cross platform development easier.
