Interesting. I'm not a materials scientist, but this seems like an interesting development.

Plastic is the end all material for a cars outer shell. Strong enough to handle collisions and will never corrode.

Adhesion however can be an issue for paint finishes, especially since OEM finishes are not very high quality.

I dunno there's a lot of painted plastic on my truck and it looks just fine.
