Oil Tanker Hijacked by Pirates

What would one do with such a big vessel? Not like it is easy to hide. :|

Discuss.

all investing is is a type of arbitrage, and thats not gambling. theres an element of risk and potential of profit involved, but those are broad and dont qualify somthing as gambling.

But if the military find you (which shouldn't be that hard), they can rip you a new one right before you think you are free to walk away with that ransom. It is not like they can hide the tanker in their basement …

What military? Its Somalia they don't even have a government, the military is just a loose collection of militia who are most likely involved. And the crew will be hostage as well.

Ransom will be paid.

(although this has been happening for years now and its getting more and more high profile so the international community might start to get involved)

I am just surprised there are pirates who are taking it big out there. I've heard of pirates who kidnap rich Brits on their yachts but an oil tanker :damn:.

Yeah the Somali's don't mess about

Mostly its little yachts for ransoms but they aren't afraid of bigger stuff at times.

Coastal waters around Somalia and the Molucca Straights in Indonesia are places to avoid.

Pirates approach by sea, and climb aboard ships with grappling hooks etc. The most common measures vessels take to protect themselves are to keep the sides of the ship well lit, while lashing fire hoses to the side rails that spray water at high pressure, making it harder for pirates to board. Not much else they can do.
