The last few days of talks are underway right now.

I have my slot at 9:00 am on the 31st to speak in front of the review pannel.

What will be said has everything to do with all of us who live here on the BC coast.

or you can ignore this and read more important threads like

You will do a great job.

My retired bio and geo morph ski buds presented scientific data as to why northern gateway is a bad idea for BC to the panel and they tell me it was a Very discouraging process, so the review panel is just window dressing/going thru the motions, good on ya for getting up there but in the end Harper will push this thru just like he did C-45 and it will end up in court with 1st nations fighting enbridge/federal gov or sft like that

Well, as long as it stays tied up in the courts until Canadians smarten up at the polls then we'll still be okay.

Northern Gateway will take YEARS by which time the NDP will likely be the provincial government and Harper will be done, its pretty daunting right now but this fight is far from over, who would have thot the Tahltan people could have thrown royal dutch shell out of the sacred headwaters with a permanent moratorium even after they tenure was granted to drill for CBM but they did it

And now we have "Idle No More" movement which has been compared to the "Occupy" movement but it is WAY different IMO

"Occupy" was unorganised groups of people with NOTHING who wanted something and they pretty much went away

"Idle no more" is a big group of people with SOMETHING that everybody else wants, they haven't and will not be going away

the 1st nations did some blaocking around the country which shows a little organization, the Gixtsan closed the railine at Kitwanga for 6 or 8 hrs yesturday …that must have cost CN some coin

I heard the Haisla will use money they get from LNG to fight against bitumen , one segment of the petro industry funding the fight against another segment …ironic eh

Last week Kitimat town council reviewed an application to open an escort service

Is LNG ever extracted by any other method than fracking? Are those terms interchangeable?

Many other methods. Fracking is just used to release gas that's tied up in layers of shale.

And, of course, it only becomes "L" NG after the gas is extracted and run through compressors!

I'm assuming they're equally nasty

Well, if the formation is just a large pressurized dome, it should be pretty much a matter of drilling and placing a wellhead to control the flow rate. Of course, the biggie is whether there's a lot of H2S. Gas and oil are often mixed with hydrogen sulfide (a by product of organic decomposition), so if there's a lot of it then there needs to be all the gear to strip out the H2S and safely contain it.

For those not aware, "sweet" and "sour" in the gas and oil industry refer to H2S content. Sweet means low H2S and sour means high levels. Hence, industry references to "sweet light crude" or "sour gas". What gets nasty is when a sour gas well starts to leak and a plume of H2S escapes.

Is it still a plume if you can't see it?
How would it plume if it is 20x heavier than air?

Need to know moar!

"In hydrodynamics, a plume is a column of one fluid moving through another. Several effects control the motion of the fluid, including momentum, diffusion, and buoyancy (for density-driven flows). When momentum effects are more important than density differences and buoyancy effects, the plume is usually described as a jet."

Doesn't need to be visible. If it's a high-pressure release, then maybe the term "jet" is more apt.

Great job in getting an appointment to address the NEB.

Did you read this article by Pete McMartin of the Vancouver Sun on his day at the hearing?

Gotta love economic development.

This month’s opening of Kitimat’s first Tim Hortons outlet confirmed for Ms. Monaghan that economic reality hasn’t fully set in among residents.

Yes I did read that last night. Funny the comments made to this article are now removed at the bottom of the sun article.

I agree with Pete's statements on the restricted structure at which we must address the panel and the fact that climate change, or oil sands can not be weighed in as oral evidence.

This will be part of what I also have to address.

Well all this talk which will come to nothing is at least taking up time during which the oil companies tell us Canada is losing billions or at least millions

I seem to remember the NEB hearing didnt happen in kitimat because the panel were afraid to go there, no where to stay, yada yada bulshit … a definate slap in the face to the Haisla

but if you think the process is anything more than going thru the motions if you really believe there will be anything more than a recommendation to go ahead … I got some waterfront land in florida I am wanting to sell ya
